Pathology of the Structure and Jurisdiction of Disciplinary Committees for Student Misconduct

This study aims to investigate and analyze the structure and jurisdiction of disciplinary bodies responsible for addressing student violations in Iranian universities. This qualitative research utilized a literature review to collect data. The resources used include books, academic articles, disciplinary regulations, and relevant laws from the Iranian higher education system. Data analysis was conducted based on theoretical saturation, and the gathered information was examined using content analysis methods. The findings reveal that the current structure of disciplinary bodies dealing with student violations faces multiple issues, including a lack of transparency in jurisdiction, insufficient independent oversight, and unfair practices. Additionally, academic and financial violations by students are among the most critical areas that require revisions and updates in disciplinary regulations. The existing weaknesses in this system have resulted in diminished trust among students toward these bodies. The study highlights the necessity of reforming the structure and enhancing the jurisdiction of student disciplinary bodies. Establishing independent oversight mechanisms, clarifying jurisdiction, and revising disciplinary regulations can improve the performance of these bodies and promote fairness in handling student violations. Furthermore, continuous training for disciplinary committee members and a focus on addressing academic and financial violations should be prioritized.
